Anti-Malware

The university uses Microsoft Defender Antivirus in the Windows Security app for Microsoft Windows-based computers and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint for Apple Macintosh-based products.

State, Federal and UT System requirements mandate all computers connecting to UT Health San Antonio’s network install and maintain an approved anti malware product. Failure to maintain a current, up-to-date anti malware product puts the University network and computers connected to it at risk. Devices without approved anti malware software will be blocked from access to the university network until the device is scanned for malware and an acceptable product has been installed.

If you are unsure whether you have anti malware software installed, contact your departmental technical support representative or the IMS Service Desk at 210-567-7777, option 1.

For personally-owned computers, we suggest using Microsoft Defender Antivirus in the Windows Security app for Windows-based computers and Avast Security for Mac for Macintosh-based computers or a comparable antivirus/antimalware application.

When current and up-to-date, these programs are considered acceptable software solutions for accessing the university network remotely.
